Access to Art & Design courses have completely transformed the lives of hundreds of adults. People who thought that their opportunities were limited forever have progressed to professional careers and, more importantly, have discovered talents and strengths they did not realise they had. The aim of Access is to provide a route into higher education at university or college. It can thus be used as a stepping stone towards a career in, for example, teaching, media studies, graphic design or photography. It also provides a course of study which is valuable in its own right. The Access to Art & Design is nationally recognized as a university entrance qualification and alternative to A levels. A significant number of learners entering university now do so through Access to HE diploma courses. The Access course is based on a credit system and students will be required to attain 63 credits, of which at least 45 will be at level 3.
