Law Applied Cert BTEC The course covers very similar material to the A-level Law course but is entirely assessed through coursework assignments rather than exams. It is a level 3 course, meaning that it is equivalent to an A level course. Students will write 11 assignments over the two year course (8 assignments in Year 1 and 4 assignments in Year 2). Students gain Pass, Merit, Distinction or * Distinction grades, and the course enables students to gain UCAS points (like A-levels) to support university applications or to move on to careers and legal apprenticeships. The department hopes to make links with local law firms, and legal apprenticeship providers to enable students to gain first-hand experience of legal work. The course will also be developed in ways which allow students time to meet legal professionals, attend Chambers and Solicitors’ offices, and visit trials and hearings at the Magistrates and Crown Courts. The department also intends to visit Parliament and the Inns of Court, as well as other places of legal interest in London, Nottingham and Manchester.
