Wine has a universal language which is sometimes difficult to appreciate. Our aim is to make the subject easier to understand while enjoying some of its hidden treasures. You will need to bring with you a piece of white paper as a background when looking at the wines a pen to make notes and at least two wine glasses. Using the correct glass is not essential but the recommended style is an International Standards Organisation (ISO) tasting glass. The glasses need to be kept free from detergent dust grease smells and grime. The glasses may be dishwasher safe but you need to check this when buying them as this is an excellent way to keep them in good condition. It is also suggested that you bring a few crackers with you to help clear the palate between wines. One of the skills you will learn will be the well known art of spitting. The course aims to be fun while introducing some knowledge to help understand the information behind the label new techniques in wine making the factors that influence the wine in the bottle and selecting some less expensive alternatives. The first part of the course will cover the tasting technique and how to make notes for your own use. As we progress we will look at matching wine and food and judge how they will complement each other. We will include lesser known grape varieties and regions to add some interest and before we finish have a taste of some summer suggestions.
