Backstage Production, Level 3

You will develop the required skills and knowledge to pursue further studies and/or a career in technical theatre. You will experience all aspects of Backstage Production including; stage management; set design and construction; costume; sound and lighting. You can work with experienced performers, directors and performance students to stage numerous large and small scale productions throughout the year, in college and the community. Past productions have included dance shows, musicals and plays with elaborate set designs and special effects. With our purpose-built theatre you will make use of industry standard lighting and sound equipment and production tools, as well as access to light and sound software. What will I learn? - Stage management skills for working in the theatre industry - The art of lighting and sound design - Stage design and construction - Arts administration and the Performing Arts business - To develop skills in event management - Work to an industry standard - Have the opportunity to work with industry trained practitioners - Design and create set and prop pieces appropriate for productions The course has a strong emphasis on practical work which relies on teamwork. You have the opportunity to develop, create and produce an industry standard portfolio which can be taken to interviews for professional work and higher education. Assessment is ongoing and coursework based, with a combination of practical and written assignments. Assessments include working on productions and rehearsals as well as presentations of your work. Abingdon and Witney College have well established links with creative and cultural industries within Oxfordshire and beyond. We use these links to ensure you get a real-world experience and exposure as an emerging Creative.
