Kings Priory is a popular choice to study A level music for pupils who show both an academic interest and practical ability. Music is available to a wide range of pupils who all have different and varied backgrounds and experiences. The course is now more widely available to pupils than it has been in the past. Pupils must have, however, an adequate performing ability on at least one instrument. The relative standard for performance at A Level is around Associated Board Grade 7 (by the end of the two year course). The new AQA specification will provide pupils with the knowledge and experience required for all forms of further and higher education. It will also give an understanding, and encourage an appreciation, of musical genres in many contexts. Extra-Curricular Senior School have opportunities to be involved in a range of ensembles outside the classroom such as Choirs, Symphony Orchestra, String Ensembles, Jazz Orchestras, Rock Bands, Chamber Groups, Musical Theatre Shows and many other instrument specific ensembles. Weekly theory classes are offered to those wishing to take Grade V theory (or higher) in the academic year. We have a team of over twenty excellent visiting instrumental teachers who teach over 300 pupils every week. These specialists cover all the orchestral instruments, piano, guitar, percussion, organ and voice. Pupils are prepared for the practical examinations of the Associated Board of the Royal Schools of Music and also Rock School.
