In GCE Business you will study the way businesses are set up and are managed and consider the economic environment in which businesses operate. The first year of the course focuses on the setting up and running of small businesses. You will learn about how to make ideas work – becoming an entrepreneur and all that involves such as raising finance, employing and motivating workers, marketing, setting budgets and calculating profit. In the second year you will focus on big businesses and develop a critical understanding of the objectives and strategies of these organisations. It is important to study how businesses operate in a competitive environment and in particular, how these businesses manage continual change in the global economy.
