This course builds upon knowledge acquired at GCSE across the three main disciplines of Chemistry – physical, organics and inorganics. Whilst there is no coursework, you will carry out a series of twelve assessed practical activities during the course. Understanding of the techniques involved in these activities will be assessed as part of the written papers. You will be awarded a separate grade for your practical skills alongside your A-Level grade. Topics you will study: Physical Chemistry Atomic structure, bonding, energetics, kinetics, equilibria, acids and bases, and electrode potentials. Organic Chemistry Alkanes, alkenes, alcohols, isomerism, aldehydes, ketones, carboxylic acids and derivatives, aromatic chemistry, amines, amides, polymers, amino acids, proteins, organic synthesis and instrumental techniques. Inorganic Chemistry Periodicity, group 2, group 7, period 3, transition metals and ions in aqueous solution. Percentage examination: 100% Percentage coursework: 0% (A practical skills grade is reported alongside the A-Level grade)
