It would be an advantage for students to have studied to GCSE level, Resistant Materials or Engineering. You will develop skills and knowledge in a range of designing and manufacturing processes. Investigational skills, linked with industrial methods will allow the study of a wide range of materials, together with past and present designers and design movements. AS will give you a natural extension of the GCSE courses and a broad background to make future decisions. A2 will give you qualifications for future degree courses – not just necessarily one connected with design or engineering. The management skills you develop in your project, (a feature of all science and technology degrees) is a major advantage of this course. Communication Methods – Graphics is an integral part of any Design and Technology work. It is important students can communicate their thinking and represent their ideas graphically.
