French - AS Level

UPDATED 20150925 13:33:48

The French A level course aims to develop an interest in, and enthusiasm for, language learning and to develop a student’s ability to communicate confidently, clearly and effectively in the language for a range of purposes. Students also develop awareness and understanding of the contemporary society, cultural background and heritage of countries or communities where the language is spoken through the study of topics, which include leisure and lifestyles; the individual and society; environmental, social and political issues and also the study of films and books in French. By studying a modern foreign language at AS/A level a student acquires language skills and cultural awareness which can lead to greater opportunities in an increasingly international business world, in which accountants, lawyers and secretaries, for example, are required to travel and communicate with their counterparts in other countries. Increasingly universities are offering courses that combine a language with another subject e.g. Law, Tourism and Business Studies.
