We will examine what influences prominent poets were subject to was it the literary milieu, the grand sweeping social and political issues of the day, or the personal, the domestic, the loves and losses? We will discuss what they wrote about, why they wrote and how they wrote. Featured poets will be agreed with the group, but we could start by including: Ted Hughes and Sylvia Plath; Laura Riding and Robert Graves; Emily Dickinson as well as contemporary poets such as Carol Ann Duffy, Jackie Kay, Gillian Clarke, Tony Harrison.
