What qualifications do I need to study this BTEC? At least five GCSEs at grade A-C If you have not taken GCSE Music you will be invited to discuss your music experience which must include performing at the required level and evidence of ability to compose. What will I do on this BTEC? This course focuses on performing, writing and recording in different styles. The emphasis is on practical work using our recording studios and rehearsal and performance space. You will also have instrument and vocal tuition and learn computer skills. Modules include performance techniques, song writing, instrumental and vocal skills (including one-to-one tuition), using the computer for music production, the music industry (understanding the business) and writing music for television and film. How will I be assessed? You will be assessed coursework and practical assessments. What options do I have after completing this BTEC? Dependent upon the units chosen, this qualification will suit students who wish to gain practical experience within the music sector and who want to enter employment in this area. The Subsidiary Diploma earns UCAS points in the same way as A Levels and can, in combination with other Level 3 qualifications, be used by students wishing to apply to university or college. For example, you could move on to the Foundation Degree in in Music Production or Popular Music offered in partnership with Bath Spa University A degree at university or music college Careers exist in the music industry, as a performer, composer, technician, or music management, music retail, music publishing, media, broadcasting, music journalism or teaching.
