Stained Glass - an Introduction - Leaded Panels

UPDATED 20160406 11:49:13

Is this the right course for me? The course is designed for those with an interest in stained (cool) glass and/or beginners looking for a new creative hobby that is both rewarding and therapeutic. No previous knowledge or experience needed to join this class What will I learn? During the day you will learn and practise one of the techniques used in the construction of stained glass items. This will then be applied by you to the safe and effective making of a simple leaded panel. How will I learn? There will be demonstrations of the techniques, tooling, materials and equipment used in the design and making of stained glass items such as panels, light catchers, lamp shades, wall lights, mirrors, terrariums, clocks, boxes etc. You will develop relevant techniques through practical exercises and the construction of your own individual item. Will I gain a qualification? There is no formal qualification, but you may request a certificate of attendance from your tutor. What can I do next? There are integrated stained (cool) glass and fused (warm) glass courses available at the Community Learning MK in the design and making of 2D and 3D creative glasswork items. Some of these courses can lead to a formal City and Guilds qualification at levels 1, 2 and 3. Your tutor will be able to give you specific information about any of these courses. What do I need to bring to the classes? It is not necessary to bring anything. If you are in possession of safety glasses, you may like to bring these with you. Glass, tools and equipment are provided, however a small fee will be required to cover the costs of making your leaded panel. Please bring £13 to cover this cost which is payable directly to the tutor. Please also bring a packed lunch. Can I talk to someone about my course before I start it? It is usually possible to put you directly in touch with the tutor if a member of the Community Learning MK staff cannot answer you query.
