This course, previously known as Essential Skills, is designed for students up to the age of 25. Students will learn and develop skills and vocational knowledge that will give them the confidence to effectively manage their lives both at home, at work and in their local community. They will focus primarily on the following areas: • Developing independent living skills • Preparing for adulthood • Developing the functional skills of English, Maths and ICT. Each student will choose up to six vocational pathways of interest per year and attend College for five days each week. Pathways offered include: • Animal Care • Art & Design • Care • Sports, Leisure & Entertainment • Enterprise & Business • Hospitality & Basic Cookery • Media & Games Development • Performing Arts & Drama • Voluntary Work. Each pathway will be coursework based with many having an end project. As an example: those on the Hospitality pathway could run a cafe using their skills of preparing and cooking food, taking orders and budgeting for their final project.
