Take part in the sewing revolution sweeping the nation and learn how to make clothes, in this sociable and supportive environment. You will learn how to use the sewing machine and overlocker, choosing and using patterns and techniques such as zips, waistbands, buttonholes, sleeves, hem finishes and pockets.

Entry requirements

If you have a sewing kit please bring this along and a ring binder and notepad are very useful to build your own reference book. The first lesson will mainly consist of discussion, measuring and pattern selection. Advice will be given on requirements for the second lesson and you can begin to build your sewing kit. Students are encouraged to use their own sewing machines so that they can fully understand their capabilities. All students will require scissors (two pairs), pins, tape measure and needles and thread but it is not recommended that these are purchased prior to the course as guidance will be given. Other additional items may be borrowed in class or purchased by the student as required. For week two each student will need to have purchased a pattern, fabric and appropriate notions. Although not compulsory it is recommended that students purchase a folder in which they collate handouts and build upon as their knowledge grows. This can be used not only as a future reference guide but also as evidence of learning should a student which to study further.
