Areas of interest Aspects of society, culture and history of the German-speaking world, including: Social issues and trends Political and current affairs and history Intellectual and Artistic Culture, past and present. Students will use authentic spoken and written sources from a variety of contexts and genres. Students will develop research skills in the language, including on subjects of personal interest related to the German-speaking world. There is a prescribed list of grammar for A level that students will be expected to study and apply in class and in their independent study. Literature The study of two prescribed pieces of literature, one of which may be a film.

The exam requires students to demonstrate spoken skills when giving presentations, having discussions and responding spontaneously to different themes and initiating face-to-face interactions in the target language. Listening, Reading, Writing Manipulate language accurately using a range of lexis and structure. Translate, summarise, listen for gist and meaning, adapt material for different audiences and registers, and read and respond in German or English on a range of authentic material.
