AS English Literature Aspects of tragedy. Paper 1 (drama): Students will study two texts: Othello and A Streetcar Named Desire. Assessment will be through a written exam of 1 hr 30 minutes and is worth 50% of the AS level qualification. Paper 2 (poetry and prose): Students will study The Great Gatsby for their prose text, alongside a selection from the exam board’s poetry anthology. Assessment will be through a written exam of 1 hr 30 minutes and is worth 50% of the AS level qualification. A level English literature: Paper 1: Students will study a Shakespeare text which can be Othello, along with another drama text and one further text which must be written pre-1900. Assessed through a written exam of 2 hours 30 minutes which is worth 40% of A level assessment. Paper 2: Students will follow one of two routes: elements of crime writing or elements of political and social protest writing. Within the pathway chosen by the class teachers, they will study three texts: one post-2000 prose text; one poetry and one further text, of which one must be written pre-1900. Texts may include Oliver Twist, Brighton Rock, The Kite Runner, Keats, and Tony Harrison. Assessment is through a written exam of 3 hours.
