How are we targeted by the media? How will new media technologies affect our lives? Media Studies is a subject that is challenging, enjoyable and stimulating. It gives you an understanding of the way the mass media shape their world and teaches industry relevant skills, while encouraging us to think critically about the media. The Media Industry is the fastest growing sector of the British economy offering a range of exciting and challenging careers. The Media Studies Department encourages learning through a practical approach which promotes independent learning and whichever course you choose, you will learn practical skills and develop qualities that will be of real use in the world of work.

Name: Media Studies AS/A Level (AQA) Qualification title: Media Studies AS/A Level (AQA) Qualification type: GCE A/AS Level or equivalent Assessment The AS course is assessed through two units:  Unit 1 - Investigating Media – assessed by examination. The exam consists of four short answer questions on an unseen media text and an essay question on a prepared case study.  Unit 2 - Creating the Media – two linked production pieces made in response to the exam board brief and a 1500 word evaluation The A2 course comprises a further 2 Units where students continue their personal critical perspective:  Unit 3 - Critical Perspectives – assessed by exam.
