The new A Level specification involves performing, composing, listening and analysing Music. It offers a brilliant combination of modern popular Music, Jazz and traditional classical study. This is the perfect qualification if you wish to study Music at degree level. It would also enhance a UCAS application for any other degree because of the dedication and further personal interest that the study of Music requires. At Lawnswood School we offer AS and A level Music from the new AQA specification which provides excellent opportunities for students to develop their musical education. Assessment here is based on performing and composing. Performing includes both traditional instrumental/vocal performance and/or using computer software or a recording studio to make music. Composing can include recording as well as writing your own music. Students must also develop their understanding of Music through listening exercises and analysis of specific topics. At Lawnswood School these areas of study are both interesting and challenging including British Popular Music, and Jazz and Blues as well as the more traditional study of set works by classical composers. This new course is interesting, fun, challenging and rewarding. Being linear you will sit your exam and submitted non-exam assessment at the end of the year. The course is also designed to be co-taught between AS and A2, enabling you to mix with like-minded individuals who want to push and stretch themselves.

The performance will be recorded and sent to the examiner to be assessed. Questions: A minimum of six minutes and no more than 8 minutes of performance is required. Component 3: Composition What is assessed: Composition How is it assessed: Composition 1: Composition to a brief. Composition 2: Free composition Questions: A minimum of four and a half minutes of music in total is required (no more than six minutes).
