This course is for students who enjoy science and want to further their understanding at post GCSE level. The course will involve aspects of all the three sciences ;Biology, Chemistry and Physics. This will allow students to gain a good grasp of all the sciences and to understand how these subjects interconnect. As a Science student you will need to have good teamwork skills to allow you to work in groups on problems and tasks but also to be able to work independently on your own portfolio of work. The course does involve practical elements and all students taking part must feel confident and work safely with hazardous materials. You will investigate work within the science industry, the fundamentals of science and how to conduct investigations. You will also gain skills that will allow you to accurately measure quantities for chemical reactions and use equipment to identify structures and functions of different types of cells. You will be assessed through a mixture of coursework, set by the teacher and the exam board as all as a written exam. This qualification could lead to employment within the scientific and engineering sector working as technical staff or providing a stepping stone to an Advanced Higher Level Apprenticeship. You can also earn valuable points towards University courses.
