It is possible to take either; a) AS Biology as a qualification in its own right; or b) AS Biology followed by A2 - which makes up an A-Level. The course currently followed will be OCR Biology course for AS and for A-Level. AS The AS course consists of two teaching units: Unit 1 = Cells, Exchange and Transport Unit 2 = Molecules, Biodiversity, Food & Health You will also complete a piece of practically-based coursework related to these units. A2 (AS + A2 = A-Level): The A2 course consists of two teaching units : Unit 4 = Communications, Homeostasis & Energy Unit 5 = Control, Genomes & Environment You will also complete a piece of practically-based coursework related to these units. Practical work is a vital part of this Biology course at AS and A-Level. Most of this will involve school-based activities although in previous years some ecology fieldwork has been done at the Cranedale Centre, North Yorkshire. There are also occasional lectures and workshops at Manchester and Leeds Universities, which help to deepen your knowledge and understanding of many interesting areas of biological research.
