Greek Tragedy in its Context Candidates will study the plays of Aeschylus (Agamemnon), Sophocles (Ajax), and Euripides (Medea and Trojan Women) as works of literature and as social documents. The principal focus of the unit is on literature, society and values, but the unit also brings in aspects of history, philosophy and religion. Candidates will study the cities of Pompeii, Herculaneum and Ostia in their social, cultural, political and historical contexts. The principal focus is on history, society and values, but the unit also brings in art, archaeology, architecture, and literature.
