This Access to Nursing and Midwifery course is a one year intensive programme for mature students (19+). It is designed to prepare you for study on a health related Degree programme such as Adult, Mental Health, Child Nursing and Midwifery and programmes to become a Paramedic. The Caring Profession offers a variety of rewarding careers working with adults and/or children in the community. With an anticipated national shortage of nurses and midwives, there is no better time than now, to join this profession. Access courses are designed to provide adults with the opportunity to return to education and gain an A Level equivalent qualification, which is recognised by universities. This is an intensive one year course of full-time study, which will introduce you to the subjects you will study at university and help you to develop your academic study skills, preparing you for undergraduate study. What will I Study: Human Biology and Health. Sociology . Psychology. Healthcare Systems. Academic study skills. GCSE English and GCSE Maths (if you are not already in possession of these qualifications) . . From 2014, universities will require students to have GCSEs in Maths and English, in addition to the Access to Nursing, Midwifery and Health studies Diploma before being considered for undergraduate training as a Nurse or Midwife. If you already have these qualifications (and they are considered to be up to date and viable by the University), you can apply just to follow the main Access programme and will not have to re-take the GCSEs. What can I do after the course: Upon successfully completing the course, you can progress onto undergraduate programmes within the Healthcare sector, or other allied related subjects. . . The College also offers undergraduate options for students progressing from Access programmes onto Higher National Certificates through to Degree level study.
