GCSE English Language re-sit

UPDATED 20151113 10:13:59

Units covered during course: This four-unit course helps students use, understand and analyse spoken and written language for particular audiences and contexts. Units 1 and 2 are externally examined - units 3 and 4 are internally assessed. Examinations: Tier entries for examinations can be decided based on the strengths of the individual students. There are new rules from the exam board whereby if students are entered for Foundation for their examination, if their controlled assessments are good enough, there is a possibility they can still get a B grade overall. The examination will take place in June 2015. For students who did not achieve their target grade in Year 11, we offer the opportunity to re-sit the qualification. We believe that there are many important areas that can be developed alongside the students’ ability to write. This includes an appreciation of life and relationships as well as an analysis of our role in society. These areas are explored through poetry, novels and plays. They are also debated through the study of Language where an analysis of the use of persuasive language and rhetorical techniques develops important life skills for all students. By studying this course, students will be supported to gain a qualification which will be recognised by all employers. The course is organised over one year during which students complete written controlled assessments, speaking and listening assessments and examinations.
