BTEC Level 3 Extended Certificate in Travel & Tourism

The travel and tourism industry is dynamic, wide-ranging and fast-growing and it offers a huge variety of employment opportunities for young people. This qualification is equivalent to one A-level and students may go on to work in the travel and tourism sector or pursue Higher Education. The specification is designed to provide an all-round introduction to the travel and tourism sector, including retail travel, visitor attractions, accommodation and tour operations. Students will study the following four units over two years: • Unit 1: The world of Travel and Tourism • Unit 2: Global Destinations • Unit 3: Managing the Customer experience • Unit 11: Specialist tourism Students will receive continual feedback on their progress throughout the course as they provide evidence towards the grading criteria. Units 1 and 2 are assessed through external exams that will take place in the summer of Years 12 and 13. Evidence for assessment in the remaining units may be generated through a diverse range of activities including presentations, role play and oral assessment in response to assessment tasks set and marked within school. Outside of the classroom, students will have the opportunity to experience the travel industry first-hand through local excursions and employer involvement. This will give students the chance to experience how different tourist centres work and gain an insight into this exciting industry. This course will compliment many other subjects such as Business Studies and Geography. Students can expect to be well supported by their teachers and will need to demonstrate an interest in the Travel and Tourism industry, good time management skills and commitment to the course.
