The fine art course promotes an experimental approach using a range of materials including painting, print and mixed media. Observational drawing underpins all fine art practice and is an essential requirement for the course. Students engage in practical studio work aimed to further their knowledge and understanding of a range of processes. All the practical work is contextualised with research and analysis of artists work. You will be encouraged to further your artistic interests, understanding and skills within a supportive environment, and to explore and develop ideas. During the first year of the course you will build upon your achievements at GCSE and develop your understanding and appreciation of a varied selection of art processes. In the second year you will focus on areas that interest you and build an impressive portfolio of work. Drawing, painting, mixed media and printmaking. You will also be introduced to a wide range of contemporary and historical artists and art forms that will allow you to grow and develop your own style. You will be encouraged to research, experiment and develop personal and innovative pieces of work that will stretch and challenge your individual artistic talents. Visits to galleries, universities and field trips are an integral part of the course.
