Japanese Beginners

This is course offers you the opportunity to learn to speak and understand Japanese at a basic level in a friendly and relaxed atmosphere. You will not only learn essential survival language but also something about the culture and traditions. This course also builds the skills and confidence needed for language learning. The Venue, City Learning Quarter. You will learn the pronunciation and basic spelling rules and gain simple speaking and listening skills such as how to introduce yourself, family and friends and order food and drink. You will also begin to read simple texts such as menus or shop notices. You will develop communication strategies to help you get by and learn to be competent in a different culture setting. There will be a variety of activities including: listening to audio or video clips, speaking in pairs or small groups, short written exercises to practise language structures and vocabulary, short reading comprehensions, memory games and pictures to help you acquire new vocabulary, class surveys, role plays and, where possible, use of resources available on the internet. Your teacher will monitor your progress as you complete activities on the course and give you feedback on how to improve. You will also be encouraged to assess your own progress and discuss this with your teacher. You will receive a certificate of attendance for completing for the course. You may wish to continue learning the language by progressing to a Beginners Continued course. You may want to broaden your skills with a different language or subject.
