Life Skills Pottery

This course is ideal if you have a disability or learning difficulty. It covers many ways of working with clay including hand-building techniques to produce coil pots, slab pots, press moulds and sculptural forms. Throughout the course you will learn how to follow safe working practices within the pottery workshop. Our courses can affect people's lives at many different levels; not only through the acquisition and development of practical skills but also by generating satisfaction and enjoyment, widening and developing interests, developing social skills, and helping individuals find direction and purpose outside the classroom. Participation on our courses can increase self-confidence and empower students to make changes that have benefits to their health and wellbeing. This course will provide you with an opportunity to explore working with clay. The workshops are well equipped offering you access to a wide range of techniques. The course is well structured and delivered at a pace that supports learning at all levels. It will also provide you with an underpinning knowledge of the creative art and craft process and a base from which to progress to study in this subject. This is a practical course. You will learn through tutor demonstration and presentation, independent practical activities, research to develop ideas and knowledge, which will provide you with a base from which to progress. Your tutor will give you verbal feedback during each lesson and written feedback at regular intervals. Throughout the course you will discuss with your tutor what you want to achieve and record it on your Individual Learning Plan (ILP). You will decide with your tutor how long it will take to achieve your goal. This is a non-accredited course.
