City and Guilds Award in Education and Training Level 3

The qualification provides a knowledge-based introduction to teaching and / or training which has no teaching / training practice requirement. Therefore it may be taken by candidates who are not in a teaching role. The aim of the Award in Education and Training course is to enable new and aspiring teachers to gain an entry level teaching qualification. It covers the knowledge and skills required by teachers/trainers in the further education and training skills sector: the roles, responsibilities and relationships in education and training, inclusive teaching and learning approaches, assessment of learners, facilitating learning and development for individuals, facilitating learning and development in groups, understanding principles and practices of assessment. Your teacher will help you develop the knowledge, understanding and skills in a set class through planned lessons, discussion, tutorials and practical activities. This qualification is both knowledge and competence based. Assessment is continuous throughout the course in the form of written assignments and an observation. Your teacher will negotiate assessment plans with you on a regular basis and give you feedback on how well you are doing. You will have an Individual Learning Plan which will be used to record your targets and progress. There are no examinations but you will be supported in putting together a portfolio of evidence. You will receive the City & Guilds Level 3 Award in Education and Training if you achieve all the required units. The qualification allows candidates to progress into employment as teachers/trainers, as well as on to the following City & Guilds qualifications: - Level 4 Certificate in Education and Training- Level 5 Diploma in Education and Training. **The qualification does not qualify for 24+ Advanced Learning Loan funding.
