Teaching Assistant (STL Specialist Diploma) Level 3

UPDATED 20150929 14:16:54

This course is for those who work with teachers to directly support the teaching and learning of pupils in schools. It provides a valuable opportunity for individuals to develop skills, gain underpinning knowledge and demonstrate competence in the workplace. It also incorporates the Level 3 units of the OCR suite of qualifications. It is suitable for anyone who provides support for learning activities and assists in the care and support of pupils. This is a work-related qualification which ensures that, whilst working on your placement, you gain valuable experience in the work place, alongside the qualification, to record on your CV. This qualification is valued by all schools and is highly beneficial whether you are employed or looking for employment. Your teacher will help you develop the knowledge, understanding and skills in a set class through planned lessons, discussion, tutorials and practical activities, but you will also learn through your experiences at your work placement. This qualification is both knowledge and competence based. This means that it is linked to your ability to competently perform a range of tasks connected with your work placement. Assessment is continuous throughout the course in the form of written assignments and observation. Your teacher will negotiate assessment plans with you on a regular basis and give you feedback on how well you are doing. You will have an Individual Learning Plan which will be used to record your targets and progress. There are no examinations but you will be supported in putting together a portfolio of evidence. You will receive the OCR Level 3 Specialist Diploma in Supporting Teaching and Learning in schools if you achieve all the required units. Following this course, you may gain employment but, alternatively, you may wish to broaden your skills into other areas such as adult teaching. In this case, please talk to Student Services about other course opportunities.
