How was women's increasing independence from the turn of the 20th century expressed in self portraits by women artists? Women were finding new roles during the wars, fighting for the vote and expanding their horizons. Then the post-war backlash, the baby boom and the growth of feminism also affected how women perceived and portrayed themselves. This course will look at work by women artists to trace these trends and bring us right up to artists working now.
