Government & Politics A2: Two further units are studied as students deepen their understanding of political ideologies and branch out to look at American politics as well. Unit Three - Political Ideologies – covers Socialism from Marx to Blair and Conservatism from Burke to Thatcher. We also explore Liberalism from Mill to Keynes, considering how liberal ideas have come to dominate the West including ideas such freedom, civil rights equality of opportunity and individuality. The topic of Anarchism addresses the question is all power wrong, posing the idea that government is wrong and that if we were all left to sort things out ourselves the world we be a perfect place to live! Finally, Unit 4 explores arguably the most powerful superstate in the world and looks at American politics including how America is governed and its constitution.
