Two units of assessment make up the AS course and they are assessed in two examination papers in the May/June session. Paper 1: Breadth Study (60% of total AS marks. Examination: 2 hours 15 minutes) Paper 2: Depth Study (40% of total AS marks. Examination: 1 hour 30 minutes) In all papers a student’s knowledge and understanding are tested by essay and source-based questions. Also tested is the ability to analyse and to evaluate historical interpretations. Options under consideration: Conquest, control and resistance in the medieval world. Religion and state in early modern Europe Searching for rights and freedom in the twentieth century Nationalism, dictatorship and democracy in twentieth-century Europe.
