There are three AS units and three A2 units, representing the three major activities: Performing, Composing and Listening/Analysing. What topics are covered? Within the performing unit, you will learn how to choose appropriate pieces of music for short and extended recitals, as well as how to use a variety of musical sources to help influence your performance. In composition, you will be able to express your creativity with an original composition. You will also develop your knowledge and understanding of compositional techniques, completing a variety of exercises and exploring different composers and techniques.

The music department has a wide variety of musical instruments that students on the course can make use of, though most instrumentalists often choose to provide their own.
