?Why study philosophy?? The study of philosophy involves the critical discussion of the most fundamental questions asked by human beings. The rise of the International Baccalaureate has contributed to the increase in people studying philosophy in Years 12 and 13. Philosophy A-level promotes Independent thought, an excellent training in thinking for yourself. As Descartes said, ?I think therefore I am.? Ultimately, studying philosophy develops a range of transferable skills which can be applied far beyond the study of Philosophy. AS: The AS course introduces students to the theory of knowledge (Epistemology) and branches of philosophy concerned with questions regarding religion, including the nature and existence of God, the examination of religious experience, analysis of religious vocabulary and texts, and the relationship of religion and science. A2:The second year of the course looks at questions of ethics and morality looking at the moral principles that govern a person's behaviour. Ethics covers the following dilemmas: How to live a good life, Our rights and responsibilities, The language of right and wrong, Moral decisions - what is good and bad?
