This one-year programme is designed to provide opportunities for you to develop basic skills, knowledge and understanding through experiencing the range and types of activity that those serving the public are expected to carry out. On this course there is an opportunity to discover land and water based outdoor activities and develop personal confidence through challenging yourself and achieving things that maybe you didn't think you were capable of, thus preparing you better for the unexpected demands of a uniformed public service career. There is a strong emphasis on your own health and fitness and you will develop your own competence in physical sport and recreation.

Name: Level 2 Uniformed Public Services Diploma Qualification title: Diploma in Public Services (QCF) Qualification type: Assessment During your course you will study up to 9 units which could comprise of the following: -  Role and work of the public services -  Working skills in the public services -  Land navigation by map and compass -  Multi-day expedition skills -  Sport and recreation in the public services -  Crime and its effects on society and the individualThese units will provide an insight into the range of work undertaken by the public services.Students will be expected to study in between timetabled sessions in order to complete course work. It will also be necessary for students to undertake assessment work tasks at home and during free time.Unit assessment is continuous throughout the year and consists of a variety of theory and practical tasks, including written reports, presentations and observations.If required, learners will also study GCSE/Functional skills in English and maths at an appropriate level.The final qualification will be a BTEC Level 2 in Uniformed Public Services. Entry requirements

You will be required to pay up to approximately £300 for a variety of compulsory, expeditions and outdoor activities including uniform. You may also require some personal items e.g. walking boots/waterproofs/rucksack etc. for use during some of the activities.Financial assistance may be available for students who qualify. Students should contact Customer Services at the college for further details and a bursary application form.
