Students will study the following modules: Year 1 - Internet Technology - students will gain an understanding of current website development technologies - Computer Applications - selecting and using office software effectively - PC Systems (2 modules) - putting a PC together and finding out how it works - Computer Programming - an introduction to programming in Java - Mathematical Methods - useful mathematics for computer engineers Professional skills (research techniques, report writing, acquiring information, team work, monitoring and evaluating, presenting, applying technology) and Work Based Independent Study (personal development planning) will be integrated across all the modules. Year 2 - Internet Technology 2 - creating dynamic Web content - Computer Programming (2 modules) - data structures and event-based programming - Networking (2 modules) - setting up a network and connecting to the Internet - Database Design - designing and implementing a relational database - Software Engineering - analysis and design of software systems This leads to the delivery of a hardware or software project for a local employer. Foundation Degree (Science) in Computing. The award has been developed by the Thames Valley New Technology Institute (NTI) in consultation with local employers, in order to meet regional priorities for IT skills shortages. Oxford Brookes University (OBU) is the awarding body. Many students continue their studies there to gain a BSc. Length of Course: 2 years Attendance: Monday and Thursday, 1:00pm - 8:00pm. Students should allow another two days a week for assignment work and self-directed study.
