The six-unit BTEC Extended Certificate offers a specialist qualification that focuses on particular aspects of employment within the Sport, Fitness and Leisure sector. As such, the Extended Certificate is a qualification which can extend the study and provide vocational emphasis for learners also following an A level course. Equally the Extended Certificate offers a focused qualification for students who wish to follow a shorter programme of study that is directly related to their work experience or to an aspect of employment that they wish to move into in the future. In this course you will study 6* units, all related to an aspect of Sport Development and Fitness, as follows: - Year 1 • Principles of Anatomy & Physiology* • The Physiology of Fitness* • Assessing Risk in Sport • Fitness testing for Sport and Exercise * Denotes half units Year 2 • Psychology for Sports Performance • Sports Coaching • Practical Individual/Team Sports This course involves a large amount of practical activity. Students should be regularly taking part in sport in and out of school to allow them to be successful. Students will be expected to take full part in practical lessons, unless excused through illness or injury. There are many opportunities to work independently, completing background reading, research or recording findings. We expect that candidates will word-process all written assignments and so successful students will quickly take control of their time-management and independent learning to allow them to meet deadlines. What can I do at the end of the course? This qualification prepares you for entry onto Higher Education in University or College. Alternatively this course prepares you for work in the Sports Industry. Job opportunities include: - • Sports Teaching • Leisure Management • Fitness Instructing
