KITCHEN GARDEN AN INTRODUCTION TO GROWING VEGETABLES

A classroom based course that aims to briefly introduce how to successfully grow different types of vegetables and fruit. The course covers the things you need to consider when planning and preparing a suitable site and the types of veg/fruit that would be suitable to grow in containers. The course will look at the different vegetable families and how and when to grow some types from seed. We will discuss all the general terms based around growing potatoes and basic method of planting and care. We will briefly look at how to recognise some of the most common pests/diseases that may affect veg/fruit and how to prevent/treat. Learning outcomes:? Recognise the drawbacks and positives of a site for growing vegetables ? List some of the tasks required to prepare a site ? Name different vegetables and the family they are in ? Know how to grow different vegetables ? Name and understand some of the common terms associated with growing potatoes ? List a range of pests and diseases and the vegetables they may effect
