Spanish Intermediate 1

This Spanish course is suitable for those wishing to improve their fluency in the language at a lower-intermediate level for work, study or leisure. You will be working towards reaching level B1 of the Council of Europe Common European Framework of Reference for Languages. The course follows a communicative-interactive approach and action oriented learning. Teaching and learning is carried out entirely in Spanish. All students' needs and goals will be taken into account to make the learning experience appealing and meaningful. Students will be able to build on their previous knowledge to further develop all four language skills (speaking, reading, writing and listening), although particular emphasis will be given to speaking and listening. Regular homework will be set to consolidate what has been learnt in class. Continuous assessment will be carried out to measure students' progress. By the end of this course the participants will be able to: Term I Annecdotes; Describe circumstances and habits in the past; Tell a story (Contrast of Preterito Perfecto Simple and Preterito Imperfecto); Arrange past events in sequence; CVs (U 1) Talk about habits in the present tense; Express the onset, duration (Llevar + Gerund), continuation (Seguir + Gerund), repetition (Volver a + Infinitive), interruption (Dejar de + Infinitive) + and recentness of an action (Acabar de + Infinitive) -Use of some Verbal Periphrases-; Environmental Issues (U 2) Make predictions and plans -Talk about future actions and situations- (Future Tense); Express future conditional situations (If-Clauses); Express different degrees of certainty and probability about the future; Term 2 Behaviour Codes (U 3) Express prohibition, obligation and permission; Express impersonality; Speak of habitualness; TV, Cinema and Literature (U 4) Identify and use sequence, cause and contrast connectors; Identify types of films, TV programmes and Literature genres; Recognize the morphology and uses of Direct and Indirect
