On this course you willl have a brief introduction to techniques, media, styles and ideas for working in two dimensions (2D) to produce paintings and drawings. Working with pencil- line, dot and tonal exercises - Chalk and charcoal - developing tonal work - Painting-water based paints and washes - Wet into wet techniques and use of sketchbooks - Use of view finders and awareness of aerial perspective - Colour wheel and the properties/uses of colour and expression - Composition, contrasts, negative and positive space and linear perspective - Pastels, hatching, cross hatching with chalk or oil pastels - Proportion of the face and body exercise drawing faces and use of coloured pencils Pattern and line with pen and indian ink and mixing media For the first session bring A3 cartridge paper sketchbook and a 2B pencil. You will need to buy further drawing and painting materials amounting to GBP30- GBP50. These will be discussed with the tutor once the course starts. Learners will be expected to collect materials or research some subject matter or practice techniques, with the guidance of the tutor, taking 1 hour extra each week.
