Year 1 units: Semester 1; Special needs and disability and partnership with families in the support context Children in crisis - A global perspective Semester 2; Leading and managing professional practice (double module) Years 2 units: Semester 1; Independent project (Single module) Partnership with families in the support context (single module) Semester 2; Independent project (double module) Leading and Managing Professional Practice - 30 Credits This module aims to introduce students to the key factors that affect strategies for leading and implementing change in their work environment. Students will develop their skill to critically reflect on aspects of their professional practice and to demonstrate how they can develop their practice to better provide for the needs of the children and families they are working with. It explores current issues and dilemmas facing practitioners in the early years field and identifies strategies that may support personal and professional development. Key legislation and statutory frameworks are critiqued identifying implications for early year’s setting. Students will develop knowledge and understanding of how to improve practice through working alongside children, and their families, ensuring the voices of those they are working for is heard and acted upon. Expected portfolio size 7,000 words Independent Project - 45 credits Normally, students will be expected to have initiated provisional discussions to explore the feasibility of possible topics before commencing the module.
