This 'Digital Photography using Photoshop - Improvers' course introduces students to the main and more advanced features of Photoshop Elements, an image creation and photo manipulation software package that is popular with amateurs and semi-professionals alike. At the end of the course you will be able to use it for everyday and more advanced manipulation of images that have been taken with a digital camera or scanned in via a flatbed digital scanner. The course is taught via description, demonstration and hands-on practical work. Topics include: Launching the software program, Importing and re-touching images, Manipulation of one or multiple images, Adding text, Using filters for special effects, Capturing stills from video, Restoring old photographs, Digital artwork, Animation, Panoramas, Kaleidoscopes, Andy Warhol-type posters and outputting to email, website or other software such as PowerPoint and Publisher. **Please Note: This course may be taught with Photoshop Elements or the Photoshop full version. The version used is likely to be the most up-to-date one available.** People who own and have had some experience in using a digital camera, are experienced in using computers at basic level and have some experience of basic image manipulation, and who now wish to develop their skills further by using a powerful and sophisticated software package. Previous successful attendance at courses such as 'Digital Photography using Photoshop - Beginners' is highly desirable. Some prior knowledge of PCs is required as the majority of the course is taught on the PC using Photoshop. Please note: This course is not intended for students who wish to learn about photography or how to handle a digital camera.

Entry requirements

Paper and pen for note taking (although detailed handouts will be given). Own digital camera (if you have one) and own photographs for use in projects would be helpful. ** Please note: If you are storing any data/images on transferrable data devices (memory sticks, portable hard drives, etc.) please make sure that you have back-up files saved elsewhere and when removing devices have followed the 'safely removing hardware' guidelines on the PC.
