Painting in Acrylics

The course will give you a grounding in the basic principles of painting in acrylics. Drawing exercises will lead to the introduction of painting techniques. You will learn how to handle this medium in different consistencies, create the colours you want, explore colour relationships, create spatial and 3D illusion, make your own compositions and practise a variety of mark making and painting techniques. You will work from visual resources, both pictorial and real objects. You will have the opportunity to engage with and respond to the work of other artists. By the end of this course you should be able to: use tone to depict 3D images, use paint of the appropriate consistency, mix and layer colours appropriate to subject, use various techniques, e.g. stippling, scumbling, sgraffito, glazing, palette knife, wet into wet for textural variety, create your own compositions which depict background and foreground, creating spatial and 3D illusion, work to relevant Health and Safety guidelines, There is no set 'homework', but you are welcome to practise and do further work at home. There is no qualification for this course, Students with all levels of experience who are interested in discovering what acrylic paint can do. The course is also for those who want to extend their practice with acrylic paint. Beginners welcome.
