Ideal if: you want an introduction to the construction industry. You'll need: basic numeracy and literacy skills. You'll learn: skills from a variety of construction trades including furniture making, trowel and plumbing trades. Expect: to spend most of your time doing practical work in the workshops. You'll love: gaining the knowledge and skills to start a career in the construction industry. You'll go onto: further study, employment or an apprenticeship. This course is for School Leavers, or anyone of any age wanting an introduction to the construction industry. Here at Cornwall College, we are offering this City and Guilds Qualification in bricklaying, plumbing or furniture. You can also choose to combine bricklaying and plumbing if you want to try both trades. This course is suitable for new entrants to gain skills and an understanding of basic site carpentry and joinery skills. It is a practical based course and most of the time students will be studying in a workshop environment working with tools and materials associated with carpentry skills. Some lessons will be carried out in a classroom but the course is mainly practical. An introduction to health and safety, use of tools and equipment and the construction of basic wood joints is covered throughout the course.
