Film Studies is designed to develop students’ interest in and appreciation of cinema, by looking at: (a) The film text – the ‘language’ of film, spectatorship and how that ‘language’ is ‘read’; (b) Producers and audiences with particular reference to Hollywood and British Cinema in the AS year; this is extended to international film in A2. (c) The messages and values contained in films. At A2 level there are two pieces of coursework: a research project and a creative project e.g. a screenplay or a short film. There is one exam (2 hours) with 3 essays on the following areas: • World cinema • Spectatorship topics • Single film – critical study.
