The AS course is divided into two areas of study; ‘A World Divided: Communism and Democracy in the Twentieth Century’ and ‘Early Modern British History: Crown and Authority’. Each area of study comprises 50% of the AS history course. To aid the students’ in their learning, the department facilitates the attendance of history conference days in central London. These study days are tailored in their content to the specific AS course being studied in the classroom, and prove to be highly effective in enabling our students to gain a heightened confidence and appreciation of the historical content studied. The history lectures are delivered by distinguished academic historians. The annual A-level history trip is a three day residential trip to Berlin. A fascinating city that has overseen much turbulence in its recent history, students are at first-hand able to live and breathe much of the history that they have spent recent years studying in the classroom. An exciting, haunting and ultimately memorable trip, the weekend also consolidates much of the content that the A2 students will be examined on in their final examination.
