Provides a sound basic training in the care and management of horses. Assessment is by means of assignments and practical tests. Practical and theoretical sessions are designed to give students an insight into the equine industry. Students riding will include dressage and show-jumping. Students also take part in morning and weekend yard duties as part of their studies. COURSE CONTENT • Work Related Experience in the Landbased Industries • Principles of Feeding and Watering Horses • Routine Stable Duties • Horse Handling • Introduction to Riding Horses on the Flat • Introduction to Riding Horses over Fences • Understanding the Principles of Horse Biology PROGRESSION Normally dependent on the outcome/profile of Grades achieved, routes could be: • Extended Diploma in Horse Management • Apprenticeship in Equine Studies • Employment
