The purpose of the course is to lead you to the following achievements: Stable acquisition of an efficient practice routine, so to be able to learn a new piece very quickly and enjoy your private practice, Development of technical, aural and sight-reading skills, Reinforced knowledge of Music Theory, First understanding of music interpretation, so to make music instead of merely mechanical finger workout, Enriching your personal repertoire with pieces from Grade 1-2 syllabus (or above, according to your level), covering Baroque, Romantic and 20th Century styles, If the level of the group allows, exploring some ensemble pieces. How to practise (rational and efficient routine), Technique principles (use of weight, relaxation, basic motions, how to overcome any difficulty), How to develop sight-reading, How to develop aural skills, Reinforced knowledge of Music Theory (approximately grades 1-2), First understanding of music as a language, music interpretation as rhetoric (art of convincing) and technique as a complex of gestures aiming to realize the composer's intentions, Practice and performance of at least three pieces from Grade 1-2 syllabus (or above, according to the level of each student), covering Baroque, Romantic and 20th Century styles, Performance of some ensemble (group) pieces appropriate to everyone's ability and level (if the level of the group allows). Teaching methods will consist of tutor's whole class teaching, accurate personal coaching, examples at the piano, listening to other pianists examples, schemes, staves and notes drawn on the white board, mnemonics. The following resources will be available: hand-outs, whiteboard, computer and loud-speaker. It is advisable to bring paper and pen from the first class.

Name: Piano - Improvers 1 Qualification title: Non regulated Community Learning provision, Performing Arts Qualification type: Assessment As it is a leisure course the assessments will take place informally, through constant observations and questions. Should the class group be particularly responsive there might be single performances in front of the rest of the group and written assignments. How much homework will I need to do outside of class? At this level it is advisable to practise at least half an hour a day. Taking in account that continuity and intensity are more important than the time you spend in a single session. What will happen if I miss a class? You can retrieve the relative material at the next class or through Moodle. If possible, the tutor will give a brief explanation of what you missed.
