What will I learn if I take History at George Stephenson High School? YEAR 1: Component 1; Breadth Study, the study of historical developments over a period of about 100 years. The Making of a Superpower: USA, 1865-1975. You will study 50% of this component in Year 1. Component 2; Depth Study, the study in depth of a major historical change or development Wars and Welfare, Britain in Transition, 1906-1957. You will study majority of the content of this component in Year 1. Students will take the AS Level Component 1 and 2 examination at the end of Year 1 but this will not count towards the final A Level and can only be used as an AS qualification if the students then does not continue into Year 2. These AS examinations are based on 50% of the content of both components. Please refer to the Sixth Form Prospectus on our website for further details about this course.
