Drawing and Painting Trees

The aim of the course is to enhance your knowledge of drawing and painting trees through practical experience outdoors and from a consideration other painters' approaches in the studio. On completion, you should be able to: Demonstrate that you have enhanced your skills to enable you to continue developing your techniques in the future Demonstrate that you have extended your repertoire of techniques and knowledge of materials Demonstrate that you have increased your knowledge of art history Demonstrate that you have extended your practical experience by working outdoors. The following topics will be covered during the course: Trees in Painting - observing how trees are represented in painting; techniques for painting trees through discussion and practice Motive - Why paint trees? What do you like about them? How can you demonstrate these responses in your painting? How do other artists deal with these issues? Working Outdoors - practical support; organising your work Problems in Painting Trees - eg. developing a shorthand for leaves Aspects of Painting and Drawing - colour, composition, etc.

Name: Drawing and Painting Trees Qualification title: Non regulated Community Learning provision, Crafts, Creative Arts and Design Qualification type: Assessment You should bring with you an A3 or A4 sturdy sketchbook, pencils and a rubber, paints - watercolour blocks, which are easier for painting outside and/or gouache or acrylic paints - plus any other materials you would like to use such as pastels, coloured pencils and inks.
